Common Volunteer Positions

Clerk of Course: Line up swimmers in heat/lanes for upcoming events.

Computer Operator: Enters both times for swimmers and DQ slips into Meet Manager software and generates labels for ribbons. You must be trained for this position in order to sign up for it. It is best for one person to work the entire meet.

Head Timer: Ensures Timers are ready, communicates that to the starter, runs back-up stopwatches in case a timer fails to start their watch or their watch malfunctions.

Heat Ribbons: Hands out Heat Winner ribbons to the winner of each heat for 10 and under individual events. (25s) Relays do NOT earn a Heat Ribbon.

Refreshment Runner: Makes sure all meet participants (from both teams) receive water.

Ribbon Writers – Second Half: Attaches labels to ribbons as they are printed by the computer operators. Also sorts ribbons by team.

Runner: Takes timers sheets and DQ slips from timers and brings them to the computer table.

Stroke and Turn Judge: Judges swimmers’ relay take offs, arm strokes, kicks, turns, and finishes. You must be trained to sign up for this position. Must attend Judges Meeting prior to the start of each meet.

Timer: Stands at the end of assigned lane with a timer from the other team and uses a stopwatch to time the swimmer in the lane. Must attend Timer Meeting prior to the start of each meet.
